OPJU was established by an Act of Legislature, under Chhattisgarh Private University Act in 2014 and admitted its first Batch in School of Engineering in 2015. The UGC expert committee visited the campus in December 2016, and it gives us great pleasure to announce that the expert committee has unanimously granted OPJU approval to be recognized under the relevant sections of the UGC act, allowing OPJU to be eligible for all grants and other privileges under the these acts.
Beginning with the 2017-18 academic year, OPJU admitted a total of 14 research scholars to the PhD program in the schools of Engineering and Management. The PhD program at OPJU focuses on strengthening the research activities at the University by creating a sustainable environment to promote scholarly activities amongst students and faculty and facilitate applied research with strong industry linkages. OPJU launched the center for industry academia collaboration in September 2017, to promote a close working relationship with industry to facilitate collaboration across teaching, research, and capacity building. As part of its efforts to build a strong linkage to industry, senior executives across various industry partners have been inducted in the founding Industry Advisory Board, which will serve as the nodal body to promote industry relevant interactions, education inputs, student mentorships, internships, and enhancing employability skills amongst OPJU students.
The first batch of students to successfully complete and earn their degrees from OPJU, 16 students from the founding M Tech batch in Mechanical and Metallurgical engineering branches successfully completed the requirements and awarded the degrees of M Tech. Congratulations to the first Alums of the University.
With the mission to unleash the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship at the University, OPJU launched the Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship last month, with the objective to cultivate budding entrepreneurs by incubating, accelerating, mentoring and supporting innovative start-ups via building connections between our campus and the Industry leaders, Government agencies and curators in the innovation eco-space. In keeping with the commitment of the university towards the Government’s “make in India”, “Skill India” and “Start up India” initiatives, we have created an ecosystem in the campus to support and bridge the gap between theory and practice.
A unique program for working professionals, OPJU launched the first of it’s kind MBA program in the region for working professionals with a minimum of 3 years work experience. Students enrolled in the program continue to work and attend classes in evenings and weekends. With a strong pedagogical focus on general management and enhancing leadership skills, the program draws upon full time and visiting faculty from academia and industry to enhance the learning outcomes.
Six groups from OPJU, have their project ideas selected for the next round in Intel Higher Education Challenge-2017 in Cyber Physical Systems. They all will receive a SparkFun Inventor's Kit for Intel Edison. Using this kit they are supposed to design a working prototype and submit the youtube video of the same to the mentor by September 30 - 2017. By October end FICE will conduct 3 days Rapid Prototyping Camp ( RPC) in Bengaluru and the selected teams will need to attend without fail. Many Intel senior leaders, Senior Faculties, Investors, Mentors will attend this event.
Dr. Siddharth Charkraborti, Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering, completed his PhD and was awarded his degree last month from IIT Kharagpur, Department of Mechanical Engineering. Dr. Ashok Srivastava, Professor, Metallurgical Engineering, published a paper titled “Advances in Joining and Welding Technologies for Automotive and Electronic Applications”, in the American Journal of Materials Engineering and Technology, 2017, Vol. 5, No. 1, 7-13, and Dr. S. M. Hussain’s paper titled "Analysis of Radiative Magneto-Nano fluid over an Accelerated Plate in a Rotating Medium with Hall Effects" appeared in Diffusion Foundations, Vol. 11, 129-145, 2017.
The career services office of OPJU has been firing on all cylinders and is actively engaging with our external partners to create opportunities for the graduating students with a focus on placements, summer internships, preparation for higher studies, and improving employability of the students. Bhushan Steel recently hired 30+ students into their GET program. Other notable companies who are slated for campus visits include JSPL group, Vedanta, Neco Jaiswal, NIBF, TRF refractories, in this month. Students of the founding MBA batch successfully completed their summer internships from various companies such as Taurus Mutual Fund, Future Group, Jindal Stainless, Amazon, Fortis Hospitals, TRL Krosaki Refractories Ltd, Godawari Steel Ltd, Glanzen Group, Jindal Steel and Power Ltd, and Global Talent hunt.
The Department of Civil Engineering organised a three day Workshop for the students of OPJIT 6th semester, from 1st May to 3rd May, and for 5th semester students of Civil OPJU from 27th to 29th April 2017 on to the theme " Enhancing employability by learning the traits of Total Station." Total Station is modern and advance instrument, which is used by most organization and consultancy firms for surveying. The training was conducted by Concept Tele Systems Bhopal, which is an authorized channel partner of Bentley. Nearly 50 students of 4th semester & 40 students of 6th semester had participated into the workshop & learnt the working & functioning of EDM instrument Total Station.
