MIC will focus on creating complete ecosystem which will foster the culture of Innovation across all educational institutions from ideas generation to pre-incubation, incubation and graduating from the incubator as successful start-ups. MIC will also work on designing ranking system to identify institutions in the forefront of innovation.
MIC will actively engage various central and state agencies to ensure that dedicated budget is allocated for innovation related activities.
Ministry of HRD has established ‘MRHD’s Innovation Cell’ with the mandate to work closely with our Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to encourage the creative energy of our student population to work on new ideas and innovation and promote them to create start-ups and entrepreneurial ventures.
Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India has established ‘MHRD’s Innovation Cell (MIC)’ to systematically foster the culture of Innovation amongst all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The primary mandate of MIC is to encourage, inspire and nurture young students by supporting them to work with new ideas and transform them into prototypes while they are informative years.
MIC has envisioned encouraging creation of ‘Institution’s Innovation Council (IICs)’ across selected HEIs. A network of these IICs will be established to promote innovation in the Institution through multitudinous modes leading to an innovation promotion eco-system in the campuses.

1. Institution Innovation Council in coordination with School of Management organized a workshop on “Achieving Problem-solution Fit & Product-Market Fit” on 14 January 2022, lasted for one hour from 3 PM to 4 PM. The speaker of the workshop was Dr. Balamurugan Annamalai, Assistant Professor, IIM Sambalpur. The Session was hosted by Dr. Saket Jeswani along with Dr. Vikash Kumar. In the session, Dr. Balamurugan delivered about basics of Marketing, along with VFUD Evaluation framework, and discussed product launch. Also deliberated about cultural difference and its impact on product, how a company adjust their strategies for their same product for different places as per change in culture. The topic is firstly covered at India (National) level and then at the International level and concluded that actually “we are consuming culture”.
2. A workshop on ‘Innovative Business Model’ is organized by the ‘Institution Innovation Council (IIC), OPJU on dt.18.01.2022. The guest speaker for this event was Dr. Santosh Prusty, Associate Professor, XIMB, Odisha. He has around 11 years of academic and administrative experience in IIM, Shillong. Discussions regarding various innovative business models with reference to story, value chain and activities took place. Dr Prusty also explained the impacts of environmental factors on various business models. The issues and challenges also their innovative solutions are described in details. The event was moderated by Dr. Jaya Prakash Rath, (Sr. Assistant Professor), School of Management, OP Jindal University.
3. School of Management and Institutional innovation council (IIC) have organized a Workshop on "Entrepreneurship Skill, Attitude and Behavior Development” on Wednesday, January 19, 3:00 – 4:00pm. This is a part of the series of guest Lectures for MBA Students. The session was conducted by Dr. Gobinda Roy, an Assistant Professor of Marketing at IMI Kolkata. Dr. Roy, is a PhD and MBA from VGSOM, IIT Kharagpur with over 20 years of experience in industry, research and teaching. He is a faculty in the area of marketing and currently teaches Digital Marketing, Service Marketing, Web Analytics, B2B Marketing, etc. The session was moderated by Dr Adil Khan, coordinated by Dr Saket Jeswani and Managed by Mr Amitesh Barman. Total 45 participants have attended the session.
4. Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC@OPJU) in association with IEEE and CSI Student Chapter organized an Expert Talk on Understanding Technology Readiness Level (TRL), Innovative Product Development, and Investment Readiness Level (IRL) on 17th January 2022 at 8 PM. It was coordinated by Dr. Mahendra Kumar Shrivas, in which around 60 participants attended the session. During the event the following topics were covered along with Q/A session at the end:

5. Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with IIC and Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Intellectual Property Management (RGNIIPM) organized an IPR awareness session on the “Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) - Patent & Designs Process" under National Intellectual Property Awareness Mission (NIPAM) on 25th Feb 2022. The speaker of the session Mr. Pankaj P. Borkar, Dy. Controller of Patents & Designs, CGPDTM, DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce & Industry - Govt. of India gave an excellent insight on the “patent and design process”. The session was arranged in hybrid mode and around 350+ participants benefited from the session.
6. OP Jindal University in association with the Institutional Innovation Council (IIC) and Department of Computer Science Engineering has organized an Internal Hackathon for SIH 2022, on 22nd March 2022.
7. OP Jindal University (OPJU) in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council at OPJU organized an online webinar on “Role of Science in Our Daily Life” and was attended by more than 50 participants. Participants were faculty members, research scholars, industry professionals, and students from academia and industries.
Dr Bijoy Kumar Das, Senior Scientist at International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials, Chennai, was invited as the key speaker. Dr Das is a multi-skilled professional with wide experience and responsible for development of science and technology. Dr Ram Sevak Singh, Associate Professor, Department of Physics, OP Jindal University welcomed the speaker and discussed the importance of science and innovation along with the key objectives behind organizing the webinar.
8.The Community Innovation Challenge is an initiative of the Institute innovation council (IIC) to help unleash our immense strength and potential for innovation, especially among the younger generation. The focus of the challenge is the community around the students and the innovations must be directed towards a very clear goal: To improve the quality of life of community members on any aspect, be it physical, social, cultural or economic. 9. Faculty and students of OP Jindal University, Raigarh, Chhattisgarh attended the Orientation Session on IIC 4.0 & Features – MoE’s Innovation Cell on 24th January 2022. The event was hosted by Dr. Dipan Sahu, Asst. Innovation Director, Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell & AICTE, Government of India.
10. A Lecture on 'Entrepreneurial Opportunities in Science' was organized by School of Science, OPJU in association with IIC. The objective of organizing the lecture was to make the youth aware of entrepreneurship to promote the spirit of self-reliance and self-reliant India. Dr Seshadev Nayak (Professor and Associate Dean- School of Management) guest and keynote speaker of the program gave a succinct and useful lecture on the topic 'Entrepreneurial Opportunities in Science' through his presentation and live examples. Dr. Nayak in his lecture gave detailed information about all the things related to entrepreneurship and how it can be easily adopted, as well as easily answered the questions asked by the participants.
11. OP Jindal University in association with IIC has organized TECH LAB- a part of Technorollix 2022 (Grand fest). Participants across the nation showcased their models in the form of working, non-working and application development categories. Participants got recognition across respected delegates from Industries like JSPL, JPL, NTPC, SSD. Event was held on 30th March, at OP Jindal University campus, Punjipathra. Mr Alok Gupta, Executive Director, NTPC, LARA inaugurated the event. Honourable Vice Chancellor, OPJU Dr RD Patidar, Mr Sameer Sharma, NTPC and Mr RD Katre, Vice president, JPL were present during inaugural ceremony and provided valuable input to the participants. Total 82 Teams and more than 280 students had registered for the event. The event was coordinated by Dr Deepayan Priyadarshi (Asst Prof, Civil Engineering department).
1. OPJU Institutional Innovation Council (IIC) under the Ministry of Education-‘MoE’s Innovation Cell (MIC)’ has submitted the data for the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA)-2021 a scheme of AICTE. In the year 2021, out of 1430 Universities/Institutes, OPJU applied for the first time and bagged a position in the Band Performer. OPJU stood in the first 40 universities & Deemed to be the Universities (Private/Self-Financed) category. Also, under the dynamic leadership of Dr. R D Patidar, Vice-Chancellor & the President-IIC, the University has also established an incubation center- “OPJU innovation center” at OPJU Campus to promote startup, entrepreneurship, and innovation within Chhattisgarh state and outside. 2. Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with IIC, SAE collegiate Club organized a webinar for students, startup innovators and inquisitive learners on “Future trends in EV Technologies” attended on 9th October 2021.OPJU was delighted to host Mr Brahmanand Reddy Patil, Vice President & Head-Central R&D, CREAT UNO MINDA Enterprise Pune, India as a speaker for the session. The speaker discussed electric mobility and its future. He said that the new age EV start-ups are consumer focussed and working on highly radical vehicle design. He articulated salient features of EV design which includes mechanical design, materials, software and hardware used. The session was attended by 120+ participants.
3. Dr Adil Khan & Dr Saket Jeswani, under Institution Innovation Council (IIC), organized a workshop on “Entrepreneurship & Innovation as Career Opportunity” on 22nd Nov 2021. The workshop was conducted by Dr Mohd Yasir Arafat, from Aligarh Muslim University. Total 41 students and 7 faculties participated in the workshop.
4. School of Management in association with IIC successfully conducted the "2nd International Conference on Role of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Management for Sustainable Development". This conference was organized by OP Jindal University, Raigarh on Nov 27-28, 2021 in association with India Case Research Centre-All India Management Association & Chhattisgarh Chambers of Commerce and Industries. More than 100 full papers were presented from various countries and discussed their research findings in different sub-themes of management such as Marketing, HR, General Management, entrepreneurship, economics, operation and case studies.
5. Dr Saket Jeswani, & Dr Deepak Singh under Institution Innovation Council (IIC), organized a workshop on “Problem Solving & Ideation” on 24th Nov 2021. The speaker of the seminar was Dr. Saurabh Gupta, Asst. Prof of Biomedical Engg & Prof I/C Innovation Cell, NIT, Raipur and more than 80 students participated in this workshop.
6. OP Jindal University, Raigarh - Institutions Innovation Council (under the Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell) organized an Awareness Session On NEP-2020: A Vision for New Horizon on 11th November 2021 on the theme of NEP-2020 in association with NSS. The objective of this webinar was to create awareness about NEP-2020 among faculty, staff and students. The focus of the session was on the new policies and practices of NEP-2020.
7. A workshop has been organized in association with Civil Engineering department and IC-ACI student chapter on 12th Nov 2021. The Knowledge about the magical concrete was delivered by Dr. Yogini Deshpande. Concrete is the heart of any RCC construction. Speaker delivers very smoothly about the new technics and innovations in the field of Concrete. Around 170 + students are present and feedback is taken from all attendees
8. A workshop has been organized in association with Computer Science & Engineering Department on “Python for Data Science” attended by more than 100 participants. The workshop was jointly organized by Intel-FICE & OPJU from 13th Dec to 24th Dec 2021 and covered the basic and advanced programming of Python.
9. OP Jindal University in association with IIC has organized some important celebration activities as mentioned below:
Energy Conservation Day : OP Jindal University, Raigarh - Institutions Innovation Council (under the Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell) organized Energy Conservation Meet on 13 December 2021 on the theme of Energy Conservation in association with NSS and NTPC, Lara. The objective of this workshop was to create awareness about energy conservation and impart knowledge about the need and importance of energy conservation among faculty, staff, and students. The focus of the session was on Energy Conservation and how to ensure energy conservation in day to day life
