Two students, Narottam Singh Sohal (Electrical & Electronics Engineering)& Pramod Kumar Sahu (Civil Engineering) have qualified for Phase 3 of Economic Times Campus Stars, out of a total participation of 37,144 students from 2000+ colleges. Economic Times Digital concluded the Phase 2 assessments of ET Campus Stars - India’s largest program that identifies and rewards the brightest engineering minds in the country. They received a total of 37,144 registrations from 2,000+ colleges in Phase 1 out of which 10,028 candidates qualified for Phase 2. After the domain assessment in Phase 2, a total of 1,113 candidates have qualified for Phase 3 of the program. We are delighted to share that, of these 1,113 candidates, 2 students are from OPJU. We would like to congratulate these students for this accomplishment. These students are just two steps away from being a part of the coveted list of India’s Brightest Engineers. In Phase 3, the selected candidates will undergo a Group Exercise where they will be evaluated on their leadership and team skills. The assessments would be conducted in January 2019 at 10 centers across India. We are in the process of emailing the candidates to inform them of their assessment schedule. Those who qualify Phase 3 will undergo one-on-one interviews with one of the Jury members in Phase 4.
The National Association of Software & Services companies (NASSCOM) has created – Future Skills-Basic learning for Future Technologies in association with Edcast. NASSCOM launched future skills programme at OP Jindal University recently. OPJU is the first Academic Institution Partner of Future skills programme across India. The future skills programme website will give students, faculty members, Universities and corporations, access to basic and advance level courses on the latest technology. These courses will help the students by making them Industry ready. The courses featured under website are categorized under some of the most important and Industry relevant technologies such as Big Data, IOT, Machine learning, Cloud Computing and Cyber Security. These courses will help the learners learn the basic concepts of new technologies helping them build their skills to advanced levels.
Department of Civil Engineering organized a two-day workshop on “Advances in Concrete Technology” by Prof. (DR). Meena Murmu, Assistant Professor, NIT Raipur, on 2nd and 3rd December, 2018. The workshop focused more on detail understanding of concrete making materials including supplementary cementitious materials. The lecture covers intrinsic design aspects of Reinforced Concrete Structure as regards IS 456-2000 and IS 875-1987 (part I through IV) along with Concrete production process, mix design and recent developments in concrete material. By going through the course one would develop adequate understanding on concrete production process and properties and uses of concrete as a modern material of construction. The course will enable students to make appropriate decision regarding ingredient selection and use of concrete. The workshop ended with a series of Questions and Answers. A Guest lecture by Professor (Dr.) D.J.Dhoble, R.T.M. Nagpur University, Nagpur, on “IMPORTANCE OF LED LIGHTING & MOTIVATION TO RESEARCH” was organized by School of Science, Physics Department on 30th November, 2018. The lecture consists of the importance of LED lights. Prof. D.J Dhoble further added that LED Lighting is becoming widely appreciated by customers as they replace standard filament, halogen and fluorescent strip lights. OPJU congratulates AayushMitra (Metallurgy) &Akash Pandey (Mechanical), for representing OPJU and reaching upto semifinals (out of 120 teams) at Anvesh the manufacturing quiz, organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on 22nd November, 2018.CII-Anvesh the manufacturing quiz is the India’s biggest manufacturing quiz, in which more than 120 teams from various corporate and universities participated, out of which OPJU team reached semifinals. It is indeed a proud moment for entire OPJU family and we congratulate Aayush&Akash for their efforts and success.
Department of Computer Science Engineering organized an expert lecture on Artificial Intelligence by Prof. Umesh Deshpande, NIT, Nagpur. The objective of the lecture was to create awareness about various uses and importance of Artificial Intelligence in various fields. Prof. Umesh addressed the students of CSE by providing detailed concepts and approaches in Artificial Intelligence prevalent today. With his immense knowledge he gripped the students with interactive Artificial Intelligence games, problems and their solutions.
Department of Computer Science Engineering organized an expert lecture on Artificial Intelligence by Prof. Dilip Singh Sisodiya, NIT, Raipur. The aim of the lecture was to familiarize the students with some basic algorithms and their applications. Prof. Dilip also addressed the students by providing the detailed knowledge and concepts used in Soft Computing/Machine Learning Techniques, Data Mining, Artificial Intelligence, Advance Computer Networks, Image Processing. Students participated enthusiastically and the session ended with series of questions and answers. We thank Prof. Dilip Singh for sparing his valuable time with us.
Students of Metallurgy & Material Science Engineering (MME) and Mechanical Engineering(ME) visits Jindal Stainless plant at Hisar & Jajpur.The students, led by Prof. Kalyan Makkuva and Prof. Jitesh Singh, undertook this training that was divided into two parts, one week at Hisar and other week at Jajpur. During their visit, students got a chance to see the manufacturing of stainless steel, which includes slabs, blooms, plates, coin blanks, kitchenware and cold rolled coils. The aim of the visit was to increase the learnings for the students about various types, processing and manufacturing of stainless steel.
OPJU congratulates Vikas Mishra, Sachin Singh Chauhan and Sudha Singh for presenting OPJU & winning the First, Second & Third prize in Inter-college debate competition organized by NTPC Lara, on 2nd November, 2018.
The competition was organized on the occasion of “Vigilance Awareness week” (Eradicate corruption- Build a new India), with an aim to join hands to weed out corruption and by neither take nor offer bribe. Students of OPJU got a chance to share their point of view on corruption and ways on how to eradicate it. Students showed up at large numbers and participated enthusiastically throughout the event.

OP Jindal University, Raigarh successfully organized its 2nd Industry-Academia Conclave (IAC-2018) on “Understanding the Talent needs for Industry” at JSPL, Raigarh and the University Campus during October 25-26, 2018, in association with Jindal Steel and Power Limited, Raigarh. The lecture was divided into two sessions; First session was conducted by ER. B. N. RAO, and the other session was conducted by Mr.Dilip Mohanty, HR Head, JayaswalNeco, Raipur, delivered his talk on professionalism in one's life and also discussed about the success mantra of few famous personalities like Bill Gates and urged students to take lessons from their life. Department of Civil Engineering organized a Sandwich Lecture on"Steel Intensive Structure" on 12th October, 2018. The session was conducted by Prof. (DR). Siddhartha Ghosh, currently a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Bombay. Dr. Ghosh has a work experience in the area of seismic design, structural reliability, design of structural and cold-formed steel, analysis of masonry domes and arches, etc. Besides academic and sponsored research. He is a member of the Bureau of Indian Standards' committee CED 7 on steel structures. The primary objective of the session on “Steel Intensive Structure” was to make the students familiar with the intrinsic design aspects of structural steel as regards IS 800-2007 and IS 875-1987 (part I through IV) and also the innumerable benefits such as ductility, malleability, structural steel offers. The lecture aimed at making the students familiar with importance of Steel Intensive structures in India and across the Globe. It was a great experience for all the participants as they got a wonderful opportunity to interact with Dr. Siddhartha Ghosh.

Dr. Rebecca shared her wonderful experience, the difficulties she faced, and how did she overcome it, during her entrepreneurship journey. She discussed how the business can implement an effective Digital marketing plan in a highly competitive Global market. She ended the session by sharing many innovative marketing strategies with the students and the faculty members. Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, successfully organized workshop on “Industrial Automation” from 8th to 13th October, 2018 by Mr. Kuldeep Mishra along with his associates from Sofcon India Pvt. Ltd. Bhopal, with an aim to provide hands-on-training to the students on PLC, SCADA & DCS system.The students not only became familiar with theoretical knowledge but also with practical aspects on Industrial Automation. The workshop focused on recent advancements and future outlook in Industrial Automation, controlling and monitoring of process plants. Department of Civil Engineering of OPJU Raigarh organized a threedays workshop on “TOTAL STATION” during 5th- 7th October, 2018. Mr. Vikram Chand, Total station expert and Trainer, South Precision Instruments Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi, delivered the training module. Total station is an Electronic-Optical instrument used in modern surveying and Construction for high precision works. It is one of the state of the art instruments rarely available in other educational institutes of Chhattisgarh. This was conducted with an aim to provide adequate working knowledge on total station, to make them robust engineer and aligned to cater the demand from construction industry. Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering organized an “Adjunct lecture on Soft Computing” on 5th October, 2018, by Dr R K Chaurasiya & Dr R N Patel. The objective of the lecture was to make the students familiar with the recent trends and application of soft computing techniques in a cross-cultural environment. The lecture aimed to provide them an extensive discussion opportunity on the techniques, applications, and recent research issues of soft computing by the eminent experts. Dr Rahul discussed various issues in the field of soft computing including several Optimization techniques, artificial neural network, fuzzy logic and machine learning. It was a great experience of all the participants with Dr R K Chaurasiya, & Dr R N Patel and we thank them for sparing their valuable time.
Department of Electrical& Electronics Engineering organized a guest lecture on MATLAB & simulation. The aim of the workshop was to create awareness about MATLAB & simulation among students and to highlight how the use the platform for industrial and academic purpose.The resource person of the workshop Dr R N Patel( Associate Professor NIT RAIPAUR, PhD from IIT Delhi, Ex faculty of IIT Roorkee), began the workshop with introduction of MATLAB and covered the topics- Introduction to Matlab fundamentals, Introduction to various steps to write code for a certain problem. Solving practical problem by using loop structure,Introduction to Simulink toolkits present in power system, Control system design with Matlab and Simulink. Around 75 students along with some faculty & staff members have attended the whole day session.The faculty members Mrs. Vijeta Verma & Mrs. Pushpanjali along with the HOD DrSrikant Prasad were co-ordinated the program.
OPJU is pleased to announce this collaboration which will facilitate student and faculty exchange programs,joint research programmes,dual engineering degree programs at OPJU and AHUT, China among other synergies. A Guest Lecture on “Material Characterization” was conducted on 19th September,2018 by Prof.(Dr) Sanjay Kumar Vajpai, Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (MME), NIT Jamshedpur for the Students and Faculty members of the MME department.The Session covered the topics like Basics of Material Characterization and Advanced Material Characterization techniques like X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). The session was highly appreciated by each and every participant and was a successful one. The session ended with an open discussion between the Prof.(Dr.) Sanjay Kumar Vajpai and all the participants. Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering, OP Jindal University and Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET), Raipur, has Jointly organized a Certificate Course on "CNC Machining Techniques” from 12 to 16 September 2018 at OP Jindal University Raigarh Chhattisgarh. Around 70 students within and outside OPJU were benefited by this training Programme.
Department of Mechanical Engineering initiated a special course on “Solar Energy Technology” which is to be included in the 7th semester as an elective subject, with an aim to meet the energy demand of steel and Power industries. The course was initiated by Dr Paresh Kale, NIT Rourkela focusing on design and simulation of the solar Photovoltaic system and the practical aspects will be dealt by some of our industry partners, CREDA and National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE, an autonomous institute under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Govt. of India). The hands on training on software related to simulation such as Solar PVSYST and PVSOL will be dealt by NISE, New Delhi in the month of October. The field visit will be done on the sites of CREDA and other solar power Plant across the country. The course will benefit the students in running the hydraulic pumps of steel plants, heating the feed water of boilers in the power plants, developing solar carport in the University campus and various applications. The course focuses on with the help of principles, methods, and technologies available one can harness energy from the Sun, which is considered to be the most abundant source of energy. The students showed up at large and the First session ended with the series of Questions & Answers.
AcSIR- Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Summer Training Program is a National level Internship program with an aim to provide students with an opportunity to work with Premier Research Laboratories of CSIR, along with the leading scientists of India. The objective of the training program is to make the students acquainted with the uses and importance of Research. Topic of the Research carried out by Keshav Sahu was on “Microstructure & Deformation Characteristics of NiTi Shape Memory Alloy”. It is a privilege for OPJU that Keshav Sahu along with the guidance of Dr. Ashok Kr Srivastava (Professor & Head, MME) and Dr. M K Phani (Sr. Asst. Professor, MME) has secured its seat in top 20 students and will be felicitated by the fellowship amount of Rs. 25000/- and along with Rs. 5000/- for travel expenses. We congratulate Keshav Sahu for his wonderful achievement and wish him luck for the future.
Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Prof. Humanities, OPJU was a speaker at an event “Chhattisgarh CSR Leadership summit & awards” on 24th August 2018, at Hotel Babylon International, Raipur. The event was organized by India CSR, India’s largest CSR network.

OP Jindal University, Raigarh is the only private University which caters to the needs of steel Industry is excited to announce its collaboration with Jindal stainless steel (JSL) to bridge the gap between the Academic learning and Industry needs. The programme was initiated under the leadership of Dr Siddharth Chakrabarty and Dr Ashok Shrivastava.
The workshop was organized in association with JSL and decided to include the course on “Introduction to stainless steel” for the B-Tech final year students. The workshop was conducted for the period of 3 days that is 21st -23rd August, 2018 at OPJU campus. About 25 students from Metallurgical & Material Department and 15 students from Mechanical Engineering Department have been selected for the participation in workshop and among them the selected students will get an opportunity of practical training at JSL plant at Jajpur and Hisar.
The workshop was conducted by JSL Technical team consisting of Prof.(Dr) S. K. Ray, Ex Steel Chair Professor, IIT Madras, Technical Advisor, JSL, Mr. Ranit Rana, DGM, Product and Market Development and Mr. Ashish Kumar Agrawal, Senior Manager, R & D. Its Objective was to make the students aware of various types, Importance, processing and application of stainless steel.

The prime Intent of the programme is to build professional capabilities, competencies, and improved productivity of star managers who have the potential to take up future leadership roles. The course features a wide range of activities which will help the young leaders to enhance their skills, to learn how to manage themselves and others, how to contribute as an effective team leader and how to gain skill and knowledge to drive high performance. The young leader programme was very well supported and appreciated by all the participants.

The 72nd Independence Daywas celebrated with fervour and pride in OP Jindal University. The Event started with a parade.Our Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dr Prabhu Aggarwal unfurled the National flag followed by the singing of theNational Anthem . Dr R D Patidar, Registrar OPJU, Dr P S Bokare, Dean School of Engineering and ourHon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dr Prabhu Aggarwal addressed the students and faculty with their words of wisdom. The event concluded with distribution of sweets.
Department of Mechanical Engineering, SOE, OP Jindal University, Raigarh organised a One-Day Workshop on “Electric Vehicle Technologies” on 13th Aug 2018, with the support of Solar Energy Society of India (SESI) OPJU Chapter, and Centre for Industry-Academia Collaboration, OPJU. Mr Jeet Banerjee, Vikram Solar Power Plant, Kolkata and Mr Yuvraj Sharda, Sun Mobility Bangalore were the resource person for the event. OPJU observed Shri OP Jindal Ji 88th Birth Anniversary on 7th August 2018. Led by Dr R. D. Patidar, Registrar, OPJU, Dr P. S. Bokare, Dean School of Engineering, Dr S. Nayak, HOD, School of Management, all faculty members, staff and students paid their floral tribute to the founder of OP Jindal Group, respectfully called as Babuji. To mark the occasion, a Plantation drive was conducted and 80 saplings were planted at OPJU campus by officials, faculty members, staff, students and NSS volunteers.
In order to explore beyond the academic arena, first year B-Tech and BBA students visited Jindal Steel and Power plant (JSPL) as part of their Orientation program on 25thJuly, 2018.
Jindal steel and power plant is the world’s largest coal-based Sponge Iron manufacturing facility situated in Raigarh Chhattisgarh. The first year students got an opportunity to visit the Industry and to see all the basic part and components of steel Industry. They also gathered knowledge about working of control room, its operations and function of distribution system. The visit was successful and was appreciated by the students.
OP Jindal University began the academic year 2018-19 by launching the school of science for both BSC & MSC.This year there were over 400 new admissions in B-Tech, BBA, BSC, MSC,MBA and PHD Programs in Engineering, Management & Science.
OP Jindal University, Raigarh organized a 15 day Orientation Programme for the new students. The primary intent of the 2 weeks orientation programme is to make the students familiar with the academic aspects of the course, familiarise with the University as well as its rules and regulations.
The Orientation programme began with the lamp lighting ceremony, led by the introductory speech of Dr R D Patidar, Registrar OPJU, followed by Dr P S Bokare, Dean School of Engineering and Dr Shesadev Nayak, HOD School of Management.
2nd and 3rd year students organized a cultural program for the newly admitted students. The inauguration programme ended with funfilled activities for the students. As part of the orientation, students of 1st year B-Tech and BBA visit Jindal Steel & Power Ltd works at Raigarh.
On the occasion of International Yoga Day on 21st June 2018 NSS, OPJU organized an early morning yoga program for the university faculty, staff members and students. The program was conducted by Yoga Instructor Mr Sambit Sahu, Principal, OPJCC. During Yoga session, Mr Sahu emphasized on the importance of yoga for physical and mental health. He performed yoga exercises including Yogasan, Pranayaam and Dhyaan.A memento was presented to Mr Sambit Sahu by Dr R. D. Patidar, Registrar, OPJU.
